Uganda Premier League side NEC have suspended their head coach, Hussein Mbalangu, following what the club described as professional and ethical misconduct.
The decision comes days after Mbalangu was seen coaching Ssingo, one of the finalists in this year’s Masaza Cup tournament.
In a statement posted on social media, NEC said Mbalangu’s participation in the competition breached his commitments to the club.
“Head Coach Mbalangu Hussein has been suspended due to professional and ethical misconduct, effective immediately,” the club announced.
NEC confirmed that James Odoch will serve as interim head coach while the matter is being resolved.
Mbalangu’s suspension comes amid a slow start to the new season for NEC, last season’s runners-up, who currently sit 11th on the table with two points from their opening two matches.
The team has drawn both games, including a 2-2 result against Police, where they let slip a two-goal lead.
NEC’s next league match is away to Entebbe UPPC at Bugonga Fisheries Ground on Saturday, 25 October, with Odoch expected to lead the team from the dugout.
